A shooting-killed deputy will be returned to Crittenden County

A fallen Kentucky deputy is being brought back home for his final rites after losing his life in the line of duty. The community is preparing to honour his service with a formal escort.

What Happened

According to officials, Rick Coyle, a deputy with the Crittenden County Sheriff’s Office, was shot on April 2 in Sturgis while serving emergency guardianship paperwork. He later died from his injuries.

Escort and Route Details

As shared by Adam Wright, the deputy’s body will return to Crittenden County on Friday. The escort will pass through Ohio County to avoid heavy Derby traffic in Louisville.

The route will end at Gilbert Funeral Home, where arrangements will continue.

His Service and Career

Deputy Coyle had been serving in Crittenden County for 2 years and worked as a School Resource Officer at Crittenden County High School.

Before that, he served for 28 years with the Chicago Police Department, showing a long career in law enforcement.

Official Statement

Andy Beshear expressed condolences, saying Deputy Coyle made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting the community and thanked him for his service.
