Authorities have arrested 76-year-old George E. Bradfield in connection to the 1984 murder of Lisa Carnes in rural Massac County, Illinois.
Cold Case Finally Solved
State’s Attorney Josh Stratemeyer announced the new development in a Friday press conference, revealing that after 42 years, law enforcement has found evidence implicating Bradfield in the tragic murder of 26-year-old Lisa Carnes. Carnes was shot and left for dead in a rural field in Massac County on March 30, 1984.
Over the years, her family was left with lingering questions about the identity of her killer. Despite ongoing efforts, no suspect had been identified or charged, leaving the case cold and justice unserved—until now.
Investigation and Arrest
The investigation into Carnes’ death eventually led law enforcement to evidence that connected Bradfield to the crime. At the time of the murder, Bradfield was believed to be employed in the small town of Joppa, Illinois. Bradfield has now been indicted by a grand jury and charged with five counts of murder.
Bradfield is currently in custody at the Daviess County Detention Center in Owensboro, Kentucky. Stratemeyer expressed gratitude to the Owensboro Police Department for their assistance in solving the case.
Ongoing Investigation
While specific facts or evidence have not been disclosed, Stratemeyer confirmed that further details will be released as the case progresses.
