A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is set to begin an asphalt resurfacing project on U.S. 60 in Hancock County starting April 27.

The project will improve the road conditions along nearly seven miles of westbound lanes, from Nugent Lane at the 9.4-mile marker to Yellow Creek Bridge at the 2.5-mile marker. This section covers most of the westbound U.S. 60 route between Hawesville and Lewisport.

Project Details and Timeline

The resurfacing project will begin with milling operations on Monday, April 27, followed by paving activities starting Tuesday, April 28. Work will be conducted daily from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting, with the paving phase expected to be completed within approximately seven days.

After paving is finished, the contractor will return before the end of May to complete shoulder work along the project corridor.

Traffic Impacts and Safety

During the project, drivers can expect single-lane closures. Traffic will be directed by a mobile arrow board and construction barrels, with one lane open at all times to allow for continuous travel.

The KYTC is urging drivers to use extra caution, reduce their speed, and remain alert while traveling through the construction zone to ensure the safety of both workers and motorists.

For those planning to travel through this area, it is advised to anticipate delays and plan accordingly.
