A major fire broke out on Grayson Springs Road, causing heavy damage to a home, a large garage, and several vehicles. The incident created panic in the area, but thanks to the quick response of multiple fire departments, the situation was brought under control without any injuries.
Fire Breaks Out Late at Night
The fire started on Thursday night around 8:30 pm in the 14900 block of Grayson Springs Road. Local residents quickly noticed the flames and informed emergency services. The Wax Fire Department was the first to respond, followed by support from nearby departments including Clarkson, Anneta, East Grayson, and Priceville from Hart County.
When firefighters reached the spot, they saw a double-wide mobile home and a large garage already covered in flames. Three vehicles parked near the garage had also caught fire, making the situation worse.
Firefighters Face Dangerous Conditions
The fire was intense and spreading quickly. Firefighters had to act fast and carefully. They surrounded the burning structures to control the flames from all sides. Some firefighters were positioned in a narrow 15-foot space between the house and the garage, which was a risky move but necessary to stop the fire from spreading further.
One of the biggest challenges during the operation was the presence of propane tanks on the property. These tanks would burst occasionally due to the heat, creating sudden explosions. This made the rescue work even more dangerous for the firefighters on the ground.
Support from Local Authorities
Along with the fire departments, other local authorities also came to help. Grayson County Emergency Management Director Carey Sims arrived at the scene to support the affected family and coordinate efforts. The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office was also present to manage traffic and ensure public safety around the area.
Their combined efforts helped in keeping the situation under control and preventing any further damage to nearby properties.
Firefighter Shows True Dedication
One of the most inspiring parts of this incident was the dedication shown by firefighter Andrew “Radio” Whobrey. He is part of both the Wax and Leitchfield Fire Departments. After helping to control the fire on Grayson Springs Road, he did not stop there.
As soon as the situation was stable, he quickly moved to another emergency—a house fire on King Road that started about an hour later. His commitment shows the hard work and bravery of firefighters who are always ready to help, no matter the situation.
No Injuries Reported
Despite the scale of the fire and the dangerous conditions, the good news is that no injuries were reported. Firefighters continued their work until around midnight before finally clearing the scene.
However, the property suffered major damage, and the family will have to deal with the loss. Incidents like these remind us how quickly situations can change and the importance of emergency services.
