Drivers in Glasgow should get ready for a temporary change at a busy intersection as traffic officials begin a new study to improve safety and flow.

Traffic Study Planned in Glasgow

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will study the intersection of North Race Street and Front Street over the next three months. The goal is to find the most efficient and safe way to manage traffic in that area.

Signal Changing to All-Way Stop

Starting Tuesday, April 28, the traffic light at the intersection will switch to flashing red in all directions. This means drivers must treat it as a four-way stop during the study period.

Why This Change Is Happening

Officials say early data shows traffic at the intersection may no longer meet federal rules that require a traffic signal. Because of this, engineers want to see if an all-way stop could work better.

Safety Concerns Raised

During a March meeting, Joe Plunk shared the plan with the Glasgow City Council. Council member Joe Trigg raised concerns, noting that cars often speed down the hill on Front Street, which could create safety risks.

What Happens Next

After the three-month study:

  • Engineers will review traffic data
  • A decision will be made to keep the signal or switch permanently to a four-way stop

If the signal is kept, it will require a full rebuild of the system.
