Several communities in Kentucky have placed burn bans due to dry weather conditions, which are increasing the risk of wildfires across the region.
Burn Bans in Multiple Areas
According to the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet, burn bans are now active in the cities of Harlan and Loyall, along with the following counties:
- Edmonson
- Knott
- Letcher
- Logan
- Marion
- McCreary
- Morgan
- Spencer
- Warren
- Wayne
What Is Not Allowed
Under these burn bans, all types of open burning are strictly prohibited. This includes:
- Campfires
- Bonfires
- Charcoal grilling
- Burning leaves or yard waste
These rules are in place to prevent fires from spreading quickly in dry conditions.
Penalties for Violations
Breaking a burn ban is considered a misdemeanor. Anyone who violates the rules may face fines or other penalties.
Stay Updated
Officials are advising residents to stay informed by checking with local authorities or emergency management teams. More areas could be added if dry weather continues.
