Barren County is set to see major road improvements soon, with more than $750,000 approved for paving key routes. The announcement has brought positive news for local residents who regularly travel these roads and have been waiting for upgrades.
Major Funding Approved for Road Projects
At the recent fiscal court meeting on April 21, Jamie Bewley Byrd shared that the county will receive a significant amount of money through the Local Assistance Road Program (LARP).
This funding was approved by the Kentucky General Assembly, helping improve road conditions in important areas of the county. Officials highlighted that the amount received is higher than usual, making it a big win for the region.
Breakdown of Road Funding
The funds will be used to pave parts of three roads that were selected based on traffic demand and need. Here is how the money will be distributed:
- Beckton-Rocky Hill Road: $271,000
- Hollow Road: $136,000
- Old Munfordville Road: $368,000
These roads were chosen after careful consideration from several options submitted by the county.
Support from State Leaders
Local leaders also gave credit to Steve Riley and David Givens for helping secure this funding.
Their efforts ensured that Barren County received a larger share of LARP funds, which will directly benefit local infrastructure and daily commuters.
When Will the Work Begin?
Even though the funding has been approved, the actual paving work will take some time to start. The county is expected to receive the funds in July, which marks the beginning of the next fiscal year.
After that:
- The projects will be discussed in a transportation committee meeting
- Bid packets will be prepared and sent out
- Construction is likely to begin in the fall
This process ensures proper planning and selection of contractors for quality work.
