The community of Laurel County is coming together in a powerful way to support a brave young girl, Destiny Miniard, who continues to fight a rare and aggressive brain cancer. Her story is not just about illness, but about courage, family strength, and the love of an entire community.
A Tough Diagnosis at a Young Age
Destiny was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) just days before her 9th birthday. This type of cancer is extremely rare and affects the brainstem, making it very difficult to treat.
Doctors had initially given her only six to nine months to live. But Destiny has shown incredible strength. She has now lived more than a year and four months since her diagnosis, going far beyond what doctors expected.
Living in the Present Moment
Her mother, Marsha Miniard, shared an emotional message about their journey. She explained that with DIPG, families don’t have the luxury of thinking years ahead.
Instead, they focus on the present.
She said that “now is the only time we have,” highlighting how every moment matters. The family has stayed strong, facing each day with hope and determination.
A Family That Fights Together
Destiny herself spoke about how much her family means to her. She said that even though she is the one diagnosed, her family has been fighting right beside her from the very beginning.
This strong bond has played a big role in helping her stay positive through such a difficult time.
Community Support and Fundraiser Event
To support Destiny and her family, a special fundraiser event is being organised. The “Faith Like Destiny Tour” will take place on May 9 at Town Center Park from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The event is being held in partnership with Branstetter Music Management and will feature live performances, fun activities, and community participation.
Artists Coming Together for a Cause
Several artists are stepping up to support Destiny by performing at the event. These include:
- Dalton Dailey
- Kennedy Reid
- KayKay
- Will Finley-Smith
Dalton Dailey shared that the situation has inspired him to spread awareness and encourage more people to support families going through similar struggles.
What to Expect at the Event
The fundraiser will include more than just music. Visitors can also enjoy:
- A silent auction
- Food trucks
- Community activities
- Opportunities to donate and support the family
The goal is to raise funds and also spread awareness about DIPG, so more people understand this rare condition.
Why This Story Matters
Destiny’s journey is a reminder of how strong a person can be, even at a young age. It also shows the power of community support during difficult times.
When people come together, they can make a big difference in someone’s life—whether through emotional support, awareness, or financial help.
