A tragic road accident in Knox County has led to the death of a 73-year-old man from Corbin. Officials are still investigating the incident.

Crash Details

According to the Knox County Sheriff’s Department, the accident happened around 7 p.m. on April 29.

Emergency calls reported a two-vehicle crash on KY-25 East, just south of Higgins Road.

What Investigators Found

Initial reports say that Alfred Smith, 73, was trying to make a left turn from KY-25 onto KY-1232. During the turn, he allegedly moved into the path of a 2025 Chevy Silverado driven by Cody Cox, 29.

Cox was travelling south when the two vehicles collided. Both vehicles came to a stop near the side of the road after the crash.

Casualties and Response

Smith was taken to Baptist Health Corbin, where he was declared dead by the Whitley County Coroner’s Office.

Cox’s condition has not been shared yet.

Investigation Status

Officials said that drugs or alcohol are not believed to be involved in the crash. The case is still under investigation by Deputy Elijah Broughton and Sgt. Jesse Smith.
