A man who was reported missing from a treatment facility was later involved in a tense situation that led to his arrest. The incident, which took place on April 22, is now under investigation after allegations of misconduct by a police officer.
What Happened
Police responded to a call about an “out-of-control” man who had walked away from an Inspired Living treatment facility. The man and the caller moved to a field behind a Lowe’s store, where the man allegedly began throwing rocks.
Officers from the London Police Department reached the scene first and got into a physical struggle with the man. A deputy from the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office helped restrain him before he was taken into custody.
Allegation Against Officer
Later that day, deputies were informed that a police officer had allegedly slapped the man while he was already in custody. After reviewing the situation, the sheriff’s office reported the matter to the Federal Bureau of Investigation for further investigation.
