The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a new scam spreading in the community.
What the Scam Is About
Officials said people are being contacted through:
- Phone calls
- Text messages
The messages claim the person has unpaid road tolls from different parts of the United States.
Why It’s Suspicious
In many cases, the people receiving these messages have never even used those roads. This is a clear sign the messages are fake and part of a scam.
Safety Warning
Authorities are advising residents:
- Do not share personal or financial information
- Do not send any money
- Ignore or report suspicious messages
