A violent confrontation in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, left a 75-year-old woman battered and bruised after she asked a neighbor to clean up after her dogs. The shocking incident was caught on security cameras and has left Linda Scott, the victim, shaken and recovering in the hospital.
The Attack
Linda Scott spoke with PIX11 News from her hospital bed, describing the brutal attack that took place Monday outside her home on President Street in Crown Heights.
Scott said she was confronted by a younger woman after asking her to clean up after her dogs. The conversation quickly escalated, and suddenly, a second woman joined in, launching a violent assault.
Scott, visibly shaken, shared the emotional toll of the attack: “It hurts, it’s hurtful,” she said through tears. “I was trying to cover my head as much as possible because she was kicking. I was trying to call 911, but I couldn’t.”
Surveillance footage shows Scott on the ground as several family members, including her son, rushed to her aid. The shocking scene reveals the brutal nature of the assault, leaving Scott badly injured.
Background on the Dispute
The altercation appears to have stemmed from a long-standing issue with a vacant lot near Scott’s home, which has become a problem area in the neighborhood. The lot has reportedly attracted trash, homeless encampments, and dogs roaming freely.
Scott and her family had complained about the condition of the lot for years, even calling 311 multiple times. Although the city issued a citation to the lot’s owner, they never required him to put up a fence to prevent dogs from using the space.
In an effort to keep dogs away, Scott admitted to pouring ammonia in the lot to deter them with the strong smell, but on Monday, things escalated to violence after she asked the neighbor to clean up after her pets.
Seeking Justice
Despite the physical and emotional pain she’s endured, Scott expressed disbelief that the situation had escalated to this level. “I never thought it would come to this,” she said, adding that she hopes the woman responsible for the attack is brought to justice.
Police are actively searching for the person responsible for the assault, and Scott’s family remains hopeful that the individual will be held accountable.
