The 2-year-old brother of 7-month-old Kaori Patterson-Moore, who was tragically shot dead while in her stroller, has been asking for his sister a week after the senseless murder, Brooklyn prosecutors revealed on Tuesday.
The toddler was also injured in the shooting when moped-riding gunmen opened fire on April 1. While the child is physically recovering, he is struggling emotionally, as is his surviving sister, Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said during a press conference.
A Family Devastated by Tragedy
Gonzalez shared that the toddler has been deeply affected, asking for his little sister Kaori. The young boy, along with his family, has been traumatized by the events.
During the same press conference, it was revealed that a 9-year-old boy, whose relationship to the family is not yet clear, was pushing Kaori’s stroller when the shooting occurred.
Assistant District Attorney Jonathan Visotzky clarified in court that Greene, the alleged shooter, had intended to target Kaori’s father over an ongoing gang conflict between rival housing projects.
However, Gonzalez did not confirm whether the father was the intended target, only stating that Greene allegedly mentioned aiming for someone in the crowd.
A Senseless Murder
The infant’s family has denied that the father was the intended target of the gunfire. Visotzky described the shooting as a “senseless murder,” emphasizing that the family had only wanted to enjoy a “beautiful spring day in Brooklyn,” but the day turned into an unimaginable nightmare.
Greene, 21, was indicted by a grand jury with multiple charges, including three counts of second-degree murder, second-degree attempted murder, second-degree assault, and various weapons and child endangerment charges.
His alleged accomplice, 18-year-old Matthew Rodriguez, was arrested in Pennsylvania last week after fleeing the scene. Rodriguez is currently in custody and is expected to be transferred to New York by next week for arraignment.
Devastation for the Family
“This case is so devastating because not only was a 7-month-old girl stolen from us, but she was not even the intended target,” Gonzalez said. He added that the child was in her stroller with her 2-year-old brother when the gunmen recklessly shot into a crowd with the intention of killing another person.
Both Greene and Rodriguez will be held fully accountable for their actions, as Gonzalez assured the public that justice will be pursued for Kaori and her family.
