A young man was killed and another was left in critical condition after a gunman opened fire on a Brooklyn street on Easter Sunday, according to authorities and surveillance footage obtained from the scene.

What Happened

On Sunday evening, just before 6 p.m., the NYPD responded to reports of gunfire outside a building on Fulton Street between Cleveland and Elton Streets in the Cypress Hills section of Brooklyn. Officers found two men suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

  • A 30‑year‑old man was later pronounced dead at Brookdale University Medical Center.
  • A 50‑year‑old man was also rushed to the same hospital with life‑threatening injuries and remained in critical condition.

Neither victim has been publicly identified. Police confirmed that a person of interest was taken into custody in connection with the shooting.

Disturbing Surveillance Footage

Video obtained by The New York Post shows two men standing on the sidewalk below the elevated J train subway platform, near a small group. Moments later, a man in a gray jacket and light-colored pants draws a handgun and fires multiple shots at the two men standing nearby.

The shooter continues firing even after the victims fall to the ground, the footage shows. At least one other individual — wearing dark clothing and white sneakers — appears to walk away from the scene as the attack unfolds.

Scene After the Shooting

Photographs from the scene captured shocked onlookers as police secured the area. Authorities also marked a large number of shell casings on the sidewalk and roadway.

Investigation Status

Officials said it’s not yet clear what led to the gunfire or whether the victims and suspect knew each other. The investigation remains ongoing, with detectives combing the scene and reviewing evidence to determine a motive.
