A tragic road accident in Knox County has claimed the life of an elderly man from Corbin. Authorities are still investigating the incident to understand all the details.

What Happened

According to the Knox County Sheriff’s Department, the crash took place around 7 p.m. on April 29 on KY-25 East near Higgins Road.

Officials said Alfred Smith (73) was trying to make a left turn onto KY-1232 when his vehicle entered the path of an oncoming truck.

The second vehicle, a 2025 Chevy Silverado, was driven by Cody Cox (29). The two vehicles collided and came to a stop near the roadside.

Emergency Response

Emergency crews reached the scene after 911 calls reported the crash. Smith was rushed to the Baptist Health Corbin for treatment.

However, he was later pronounced dead by the Whitley County Coroner’s Office.

Investigation Update

Authorities have stated that drugs or alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash. The condition of the other driver has not been shared yet.

The case is still under investigation by the sheriff’s department.
