A Lexington man is facing federal charges after an explosion and house fire led investigators to uncover illegal weapons possession.

Man Indicted After House Fire

A federal grand jury has indicted Jonathan Huff, 37, on weapons charges following a house fire in Lexington.

According to the Lexington Fire Department, crews were called to a home on Orleans Circle around 7:45 a.m. on April 12.

Explosion and Investigation

During the investigation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives found that witnesses heard two explosions coming from the home. Huff was reportedly seen running from the scene before later returning.

He was taken to the hospital with serious burns to his hands and back.

Weapons Recovered

Investigators said Huff admitted to having a Glock pistol and an AR-style rifle on the day of the fire. A search warrant was later executed, and both firearms were recovered from his home and vehicle.

Prior Conviction

Authorities confirmed that Huff had a previous felony conviction in 2021 in Indiana for methamphetamine possession. Because of this, he was not legally allowed to have firearms.

Charges and Possible Penalties

Huff was indicted on April 23 and now faces:

  • Up to 15 years in prison
  • A fine of up to $250,000
  • Up to three years of supervised release

He will also forfeit all firearms and ammunition.

Current Status

Huff is currently being held at the Woodford County Detention Center on a $50,000 cash bond.
