A late-night police call in Kentucky quickly turned into a dramatic chase involving a car pursuit, a foot chase, and property damage. What started as a simple prowling complaint ended with a man facing multiple serious charges.
Incident Begins with Suspicious Activity
The situation started on the night of April 18, 2026, around 10:07 PM. A deputy from the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call about a person trying to tamper with the back door of a business on South US 25 near London.
When Deputy Arnold Arnett arrived, he found a beige Chevy Impala parked behind the building. A woman was sitting in the driver’s seat, and the situation appeared suspicious.
Vehicle Chase Takes a Dangerous Turn
As the deputy tried to remove the woman from the car, things suddenly escalated. A man, later identified as Rex Lashure, jumped into the driver’s seat and drove off at high speed.
The deputy immediately began chasing the vehicle. During the pursuit:
- The car was driven recklessly
- It passed other vehicles at high speed
- It created a dangerous situation on the road
This risky behaviour increased the seriousness of the case.
Foot Chase and Crash into Storage Units
The chase didn’t end on the road. Lashure eventually stopped the car in the middle of US 25 and ran into a nearby wooded area.
In a hurry to escape:
- He left the car in gear
- The vehicle kept moving on its own
- It crashed into several storage units, causing heavy damage
Deputy Arnett followed him into the woods and managed to catch him after a short foot chase.
Drugs Found and More Violations Discovered
After the arrest, officers found suspected methamphetamine in Lashure’s possession. Further checks revealed more violations:
- The car’s licence plate did not belong to that vehicle
- Multiple traffic and registration rules had been broken
These findings added more charges to the case.
List of Charges Filed
Rex Lashure, 49, from Pineville, now faces several charges, including:
- Fleeing or evading police (by vehicle and on foot)
- Possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine)
- Criminal mischief (for damage to property)
- Reckless driving
- Registration-related violations
He has been taken to the Laurel County Correctional Center with a cash bond set at $7,500.
Police Team Effort
The operation involved teamwork from multiple officers of the sheriff’s office. Deputy Arnett was supported by:
- Deputy Justin Lewis
- Deputy Carly Dorraugh
- Deputy Ethan Brown
- Deputy Joey Smith
Their combined efforts helped bring the situation under control safely.
