The Los Angeles Dodgers powered their way to a 14-2 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night, hitting five home runs in a dominant performance. This game, a rematch of the 2025 World Series, saw Dalton Rushing shine with two solo home runs, marking his first career multihomer game.
Key Performances
Rushing went 4 for 4, adding a walk and a hit-by-pitch, and also scored after being hit by a pitch. His home runs came off Tommy Nance in the seventh inning and Spencer Miles in the eighth inning, both helping to extend the Dodgers’ lead.
Alongside Rushing, Teoscar Hernández and Freddie Freeman each hit a two-run homer, with Hernández finishing 2 for 5 with four RBIs, and Freeman going 2 for 4 with three RBIs. Shohei Ohtani also contributed with a solo shot in the sixth inning, his third homer in four games.
The Dodgers racked up 17 hits in total, including a two-run double from Andy Pages. Kyle Tucker had a productive night as well, scoring three times and driving in a run with a sacrifice fly.
Pitching Performance
Justin Wrobleski (1-0) made his first start of the season for the Dodgers, allowing just one run on two hits in five innings. He struck out two and walked one.
For the Blue Jays, Max Scherzer, making his return after a long absence, allowed two runs on two hits and struck out two in a brief start. He was tagged with the loss, and the Blue Jays’ bullpen struggled to keep the Dodgers at bay.
Blue Jays Struggles
The Blue Jays were unable to get much going offensively and have now dropped five straight games. Their only real highlight came from Hernández, who homered off Scherzer in the first inning.
In a unique moment, Tyler Heineman, the Blue Jays’ catcher, was called on to pitch the ninth inning, and he retired the side in order. It marked the only 1-2-3 inning for the Blue Jays in the game.
Up Next
The Los Angeles Dodgers will look to extend their dominance when Yoshinobu Yamamoto (1-1, 3.00 ERA) takes the mound on Tuesday. He will face Kevin Gausman (0-0, 0.75 ERA) of the Blue Jays.
