The San Diego Padres snapped the Pittsburgh Pirates’ five-game winning streak with a dominant 5-0 victory on Monday night. Germán Márquez, along with two relievers, combined to throw a seven-hit shutout in the win, marking the Padres’ third straight victory.
Key Performances
Nick Castellanos delivered the first of four RBI doubles for the Padres, helping to pace their offense. Jackson Merrill, Jake Cronenworth, and Ramón Laureano also contributed with run-scoring doubles to help put the game out of reach for the Pirates.
Márquez (1-1) pitched five innings, allowing six hits and one walk while striking out four. He threw 92 pitches and was in control throughout the game. Ron Marinaccio and David Morgan each worked two innings to complete the shutout for the Padres, who earned their second shutout of the season.

Despite some opportunities, the Pirates went 1 for 10 with runners in scoring position, and this loss marked their first home defeat of the season.
