A Nevada man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a 59-year-old man, though his story took a surprising turn when he claimed to have been planning to play video games while allegedly being involved in the crime.

Elijah Harris Arrested for Murder and Robbery

Elijah Harris, 19, is facing serious charges including open murder, attempted robbery, and conspiracy to commit robbery after being linked to the shooting death of Victor Powe. The 59-year-old victim was found dead in his car on April 10, 2026, after suffering multiple gunshot wounds.

Details of the Crime

According to a criminal complaint obtained by local CBS affiliate KLAS, Harris was one of three men allegedly involved in the shooting. Police responded to a call at 6:29 PM on April 10, where they found Powe’s car crashed into a building with him inside, dead from gunshot wounds.

Surveillance footage showed the following:

  • Three men approached Powe’s vehicle while he was parked at the curb.
  • One man acted as a lookout, while the other two approached Powe’s car.
  • One of the men demanded Powe get out of the car before opening fire.
  • Powe attempted to flee but crashed the vehicle after being shot.

Harris’s Account of Events

According to Harris’s statement to the Las Vegas Metro Police, the night of the crime was originally planned to be a simple hangout. He said he and his friends were going to smoke weed and play video games when one of the men showed up with a rifle, which Harris said he had told him not to bring.

The situation escalated when the group ran out of marijuana, and one of the other men suggested picking up drugs from Powe, who they referred to as the “plug’s runner.” Despite being warned, Harris agreed to go with his friends to meet Powe.

Once they arrived, Harris claimed that after a brief conversation, one of his friends began shooting at Powe.

Aftermath and Arrest

After the shooting, Harris said he was the first one to return to the apartment. When the other two men arrived, they allegedly changed clothes and said their interaction with Powe had gone wrong and wasn’t supposed to end in violence.

Although Harris denied knowing about the robbery or murder plan, he admitted he “should have known something was up.” Police arrested him on April 16, and he is currently being held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center.

Charges and Court Date

Harris has been charged with:

  • Open murder
  • Attempted robbery
  • Conspiracy to commit robbery

He remains in custody, with his next court hearing scheduled for May 20, 2026.
