José Ramírez establishes Cleveland franchise record with 1,620 games played

José Ramírez made history on Monday night, surpassing Terry Turner’s longstanding record for the most games played in Cleveland Indians (now Guardians) history. Ramírez played in his 1,620th game, surpassing Turner’s mark of 1,619 games, a record that had stood for more than 108 years.

Turner, who spent 15 of his 17 seasons with Cleveland from 1904 to 1918, was an iconic figure for the franchise.

Historic Achievement and Recognition

Before the sixth inning of the game against Kansas City, Ramírez was presented with Turner’s third-base bag by Sandy Alomar Jr., Cleveland’s longtime first-base coach, to commemorate the milestone. With this achievement, Ramírez has become the only active player to lead his franchise in games played.

A Storied Career with Cleveland

Ramírez made his Major League Baseball debut on September 1, 2013, as a pinch runner for Carlos Santana in a game against the Detroit Tigers.

Since then, he has been a cornerstone for the franchise, contributing to six American League Central Division titles, including the 2016 World Series team that came up just short, losing to the Chicago Cubs in a dramatic seven-game series.

Ramírez is the only player in Cleveland’s 125-year history to have at least 250 home runs and 250 stolen bases. As of now, he boasts 286 home runs and 289 stolen bases.

Franchise Records and Achievements

Ramírez also leads the franchise in extra-base hits (729) and has recorded 27 multihomer games. He ranks second in home runs, stolen bases, total bases (3,018), and RBIs (954). Additionally, Ramírez is third in doubles (400) and seventh in hits (1,674).

His remarkable consistency and all-around contributions make him one of the most decorated players in Cleveland’s history.
