A 42-year-old man in Florida, Richard Dustin Barker, has been arrested after allegedly killing his boss, Jeffrey Hubbard, in a violent early morning attack. The incident took place in Venice and has shocked the local community due to the disturbing details revealed by police.
What Happened at the Scene
According to the Venice Police Department, officers responded to a call around 6 a.m. reporting a fight outside a property on Grove Street South. A witness told police that one man left the scene in a red pickup truck and later returned with a trailer, attempting to move the other man’s body.
When officers arrived, they found Hubbard lying on the ground behind the trailer. He was unresponsive, and a white tank top was wrapped tightly around his neck. Emergency responders tried to save him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
As police approached, Barker reportedly exited his vehicle, placed his hands on his head, and admitted to the crime. Authorities say his statement was recorded on a body camera.
Alleged Motive and Planning
Investigators say Barker later confessed that he had planned the attack in advance. He reportedly told detectives that he went to the location intending to kill Hubbard, who was his employer at a local repair business.
According to police, Barker said he knew his boss’s routine and waited for him to step बाहर early in the morning. He allegedly prepared by using a tank top as a weapon and wore a motorcycle helmet to protect himself during the attack.
Details of the Attack
Police say Barker initially tried to strangle Hubbard using the tank top but struggled when the victim fought back. During the fight, Hubbard reportedly managed to scratch Barker’s face. The suspect then used his hands to continue strangling him until he died.
After the killing, Barker allegedly placed the tank top around the victim’s neck in a way that would make it harder for emergency responders to save him.
Attempt to Hide Evidence
Authorities say Barker tried to cover up the crime after the attack. He reportedly removed items from Hubbard’s pockets and attempted to clean blood from the area using a hose. When he could not move the body alone, he drove to get a trailer and returned to drag the body.
Witnesses saw this and alerted police, leading to his arrest at the scene. Investigators also said Barker planned to take the body to Port Charlotte and bury it in a remote area.
Charges and Legal Status
Barker has been charged with second-degree murder and tampering with evidence. He is currently being held in Sarasota County Jail without bond and is expected to appear in court soon.
