The Boston Red Sox are being recognized for their star power and potential, despite a slow start to the 2026 MLB season. Outfielder Roman Anthony, one of the team’s rising stars, has earned MVP buzz heading into the year.
Alongside talented players like Ceddanne Rafaela, Wilyer Abreu, and Marcelo Mayer, the Red Sox are stacked with young, dynamic talent.
ESPN’s Ranking of the Red Sox
David Schoenfield, ESPN’s MLB reporter, ranked the Red Sox fourth on his list of the most watchable teams in baseball. Boston is only ranked behind the Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Dodgers, and New York Mets.
Schoenfield acknowledged that the team’s slow start might make the ranking seem aggressive, but he emphasized that Boston is still a highly intriguing team to watch.
“The slow start is a little worrisome,” Schoenfield said. “Losing teams aren’t that watchable no matter how advanced Roman Anthony might be at the plate or how dynamic Ceddanne Rafaela and Wilyer Abreu are on defense.”
Despite the rough beginning, Schoenfield praised Boston’s young talent, including Anthony, Marcelo Mayer, and Connelly Early, highlighting that the Red Sox score highly in young talent.
The Red Sox’s Talent and Potential
Boston boasts six players ranked in the top 100 prospects, including Garrett Crochet, who leads the list. Schoenfield ranked Roman Anthony at No. 33 in terms of potential, showing his bright future.
Despite the early-season setbacks, Schoenfield encourages fans not to overreact to a small sample size, as he believes the team will be entertaining throughout the season.
