The New York Mets may be facing an early-season concern after star outfielder Juan Soto exited Friday night’s game against the San Francisco Giants with right calf tightness.
Soto is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Saturday to determine the severity of the issue. Manager Carlos Mendoza admitted there is “obviously concern,” noting that calf injuries can be tricky.
Injury Happened in First Inning
The injury occurred early in the game when Soto singled and then tried to advance from first to third on a hit. He appeared to slow down while running and later felt tightness while standing on third base.
He was eventually forced out at home plate during the same inning and was replaced defensively shortly after.
Strong Start Before Exit
Before leaving the game, Soto had been off to a solid start this season, recording a hit in every game so far. His consistency has been a key part of the Mets’ early offense.
Durable Star Faces Uncertainty
Soto has built a reputation for durability. The 27-year-old has played at least 150 games in six of his eight MLB seasons and has rarely dealt with injuries. He has not been on the injured list since 2021.
Now in the second year of his record 15-year, $765 million contract, Soto remains one of baseball’s most important players. Last season, he hit 43 home runs and drove in 105 runs.
