Seattle Mariners’ top prospect Colt Emerson is listed as day-to-day after fouling a ball off his right foot. The injury occurred during the first game of a doubleheader for Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday. However, Emerson underwent X-rays, which came back negative, and the injury does not appear to be severe.
Emerson’s Quick Rise and Recent Contract Extension
Emerson, 20, was recently signed to a massive eight-year, $95 million contract extension, with a club option for a ninth year and potential escalators that could push the total value to $130 million. This deal now stands as the largest contract for a player without major league service time, surpassing Jackson Chourio’s $82 million extension with the Milwaukee Brewers.
The shortstop, drafted 22nd overall in the 2023 MLB Draft out of John Glenn High School in New Concord, Ohio, has shown immense potential. He had a breakout season in 2025, hitting .285 with an .842 OPS, 16 homers, 28 doubles, and 78 RBIs across three levels, while also establishing himself as a capable defender at the big league level.
Early 2026 Season Performance
Emerson, ranked as the No. 7 prospect in baseball by MLB.com entering the 2026 season, started his Triple-A campaign strong. In his first seven games for Tacoma, he hit .269 (7-for-26) with one home run, two doubles, and three RBIs.
Emerson was expected to join the Mariners’ core of players, including 2025 American League MVP runner-up Cal Raleigh, Julio RodrÃguez, and Josh Naylor, as part of Seattle’s future plans. The team will be hopeful that Emerson’s foot injury will not hinder his development or delay his MLB debut.
