The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Boston Red Sox 8-6 on Monday night, sending the Red Sox to their eighth loss in nine games. The Brewers’ victory was highlighted by a tiebreaking single from Garrett Mitchell in the eighth inning, giving them the lead.
Key Performances
Christian Yelich contributed to the win with three hits and an RBI, continuing his strong performance for the Brewers, who now sit at an impressive 8-2 on the season.
Willson Contreras, who had a solo home run and reached base five times, led the Red Sox offense, but it wasn’t enough to stop their slide to 2-8.
In a crucial moment, Garrett Whitlock (0-1) struggled in the eighth, walking two batters before Mitchell’s go-ahead hit. Left fielder Roman Anthony threw wildly to the plate on the play, allowing a second run to score, making it 7-5.
Relief Effort
Aaron Ashby (3-0) recorded four outs in relief, and Angel Zerpa worked the ninth inning to secure his first career save for Milwaukee.
Game Highlights
The game had an odd sequence in the fourth inning when the Brewers took a 4-3 lead before the Red Sox regained the advantage with two unearned runs in the bottom half. Contreras’s RBI double made it 5-4 after a fielding error by Brewers shortstop David Hamilton.
In the third inning, the Brewers managed to score four runs without hitting a ball out of the infield, utilizing three infield singles, three walks, and an error by Red Sox third baseman Caleb Durbin. The only hit that scored a run was a slow dribbler by Yelich.
Starting Pitching
Brandon Woodruff pitched 5 2/3 innings for the Brewers, giving up five runs, three of which were earned. Meanwhile, Brayan Bello of the Red Sox struggled once again, allowing four runs, three earned, in 3 1/3 innings. Bello has failed to go beyond five innings in either of his starts this season.
Up Next
The Brewers will send Jacob Misiorowski (1-0, 2.45 ERA) to the mound on Tuesday, while the Red Sox will counter with Garrett Crochet (1-1, 3.27 ERA).
