A tragic incident in Newark, New Jersey, has led to the death of a 46-year-old delivery driver, Jhon Aponte Alarcon. He lost his life after a teenager allegedly tried to steal his car while he was working. The incident has shocked the local community and left his family grieving.

How the Incident Happened

According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, the incident took place around 12:45 p.m. when Alarcon was delivering a package. He had left his car running on the street while he went to a nearby house. During this time, a teenage suspect allegedly entered the vehicle and started driving away.

Alarcon noticed this and quickly ran back to his car. In an attempt to stop the theft, he held onto the vehicle while the suspect continued driving. Moments later, the suspect crashed into a parked car. The impact caused the vehicle to flip over, and Alarcon was crushed under it, leading to fatal injuries.

Arrest and Charges

After the crash, the suspect ran away from the scene. Authorities later arrested the teenager on Tuesday. He now faces multiple serious charges, including first-degree murder, carjacking, vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, endangering an injured victim, and theft of a motor vehicle.

Since the accused is a minor, officials have not released his identity.

Family’s Reaction and Loss

Alarcon’s family initially believed that he had died in a regular car accident. His son, Debyd Aponte, later shared that they were not told the full details at first. Learning the truth made the loss even more painful for the family.

He described his father as a hardworking man who was simply doing his job and trying to support his children. The sudden nature of the tragedy has deeply affected them. The family has also started a GoFundMe page to raise money for funeral expenses, saying that their world has been completely shattered.

Appeal for Public Help

Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II has requested anyone with information about the case to come forward. Authorities have shared a tip line and are encouraging people to help with the investigation so that justice can be ensured.
