A long-running homicide case in Clarksville has reached a major milestone, with a Nashville man convicted on multiple charges more than five years after a deadly home invasion.
The case stems from the 2021 killing of Trasbin Campbell, whose death shocked the local community and led to an extensive investigation.
What Happened in March 2021
According to the Clarksville Police Department, officers responded to a panic alarm around 4 a.m. on March 27, 2021, at a home on Eagle’s View Drive.
When they arrived, they found Campbell, 40, dead inside the residence.
The investigation quickly pointed to a suspect with a personal connection to the home — the ex-boyfriend of Campbell’s partner.
Arrest and Investigation
Authorities tracked the suspect, John Bean, to Nashville, where he was later arrested.
Investigators gathered key evidence linking Bean to the crime:
- He was found wearing clothing matching the suspect description
- His vehicle was located shortly after the incident
- The victim’s phone and the alleged murder weapon were recovered along a highway
- DNA evidence reportedly connected both Bean and Campbell to the weapon
Officials said Bean discarded evidence while returning to Nashville after the crime.
Trial and Convictions
On April 7, following a trial led by Robert Nash of the 19th Judicial District, Bean was found guilty on multiple charges.
The convictions include:
- First-degree murder
- Felony murder
- Especially aggravated burglary
- Aggravated assault
- Employment of a firearm during a dangerous felony
- Theft
- Attempted electronic tracking (lesser included offense)
Prosecutors argued that Bean broke into his ex-girlfriend’s home, shot and killed her new partner, and took items from the residence before fleeing.

The case was prosecuted by District Attorney Robert Nash, alongside Assistant District Attorneys Kayla McBride and Chris West. They were supported by Victim Witness Coordinator Katrina Carte.
Their work helped bring the case to a conclusion after years of investigation and legal proceedings.

As of now, officials have not announced a sentencing date for Bean. The court is expected to determine his punishment in a future hearing.
