St. Louis Cardinals to give Adam Wainwright different spotlight

The St. Louis Cardinals are playing out the string over the final few weeks. With the playoffs out of reach, those last few games will focus on Adam Wainwright.

The Cardinals legend is limping to the finish line of his career. He has posted a 7.95 ERA and a 1.979 WHiP in his 94 innings, striking out 52 batters with 39 walks. Wainwright remains one win away from his 200th career victory, a number that seemed inevitable at the start of the season. Instead, injuries and ineffectiveness have put that milestone in jeopardy.

Adam Wainwright to get unique honour from St. Louis Cardinals

The spotlight will understandably be on Wainwright as he looks to earn that milestone victory. However, he will also be in the spotlight for another reason during the Cardinals’ final home weekend. There will be a postgame concert with Wainwright performing three songs off of his upcoming album.

There has always been a crossover between professional sports and music. It is not uncommon to see athletes come out with their own music, using the power of their celebrity to sell albums. This has been the case since the early days of professional baseball, when the likes of Mike Donlin, Cap Anson, Christy Mathewson, and even Babe Ruth appearing on Vaudeville. That path to Broadway continued in modern times with Mark Teixeira appearing in Rock of Ages.

It is also not uncommon for an athlete to perform at their home stadium. There have been numerous players that have sung the National Anthem. Bernie Williams has displayed his skills with the guitar at Yankee Stadium. Now, it is Wainwright’s turn, as he will get to take center stage before heading off into the sunset.

The St. Louis Cardinals are giving Adam Wainwright a sendoff to remember. He will be part of a postgame concert during his final home weekend.
