The Reds announced on Friday that manager David Bell has been handed a new contract. He has now been extended through the 2026 campaign, providing stability on the bench going forward.

Bell’s success cannot be entirely measured by his record. He has a 308-343 record heading into Saturday despite having his teams over .500 in three of his five seasons. However, he has been at the helm during the Reds’ recent rebuilding process, overseeing a 100 loss campaign in 2022.
The tables have turned this season. Bell has helped guide a young Reds team to a surprisingly strong showing as they are a half game out of the NL Central lead. The Reds also hold down one of the Wild Card berths, a testament to his leadership. Youngsters such as Andrew Abbott, Elly De La Cruz, and Spencer Steer have made immediate impacts on the roster. The Reds have overcome injuries and ineffectiveness in their rotation to contend.
Bell deserves a share of the credit in that success. While the Reds developmental and scouting departments found the right pieces, minor league success does not always translate to the majors. Bell and his coaching staff have ensured that development has continued. These pieces are the future in Cincinnati and Bell will be there to continue to guide them forward.
