The Baltimore Orioles youth movement has been key to their success thus far in 2023. The likes of Adley Rutschman and Gunnar Henderson have made a major impact upon the lineup this season. Jordan Westburg has impressed in his brief time in Baltimore. And now, another piece for the future is set to get a look.
According to Rich Kubatko from MASN, the Orioles are set to add Colton Cowser to the roster. The Orioles’ second ranked prospect will need to be added to the 40 man roster, necessitating another move to bring him on board.
Finding a fit for Colton Cowser on Baltimore Orioles
Cowser certainly did his part to force the Orioles’ hand into his promotion. He had produced an impressive .330/.459/.537 batting line in his 257 plate appearances, hitting ten homers and ten doubles while stealing seven bases. His ability to get on base has also impressed as Cowser has drawn 48 walks against 60 strikeouts.
The question is where he will play. Cedric Mullins is not going anywhere in center. Austin Hays and Anthony Santander have been excellent this season. Ryan McKenna can play all three outfield positions and has been relatively solid with the bat. Even Aaron Hicks has had a resurgence since signing with Baltimore after a disastrous few years with the Yankees.
This is also a luxury that any team would want to have. Cowser has been a consensus top 100 prospect for each of the past two seasons with the production to match his lofty billing. He will find a way into the lineup on a near daily basis – the Orioles would not be bringing him to the majors if he was not going to play. It is just a matter of figuring out who loses playing time.
The future continues to be now for the Baltimore Orioles. Colton Cowser is the next top prospect set to debut in Baltimore this year.
